19 | Jingling Bangles

After leaving the lingerie store, Asra’s eyes lit up again when she spotted a traditional Indian accessories shop. The colorful display of bangles, earrings, and bindis immediately caught her attention.

“Sir… can we go there please?” she asked sweetly, giving him her best pleading look while gently holding his arm.

Ather looked at the shop and then at her excited face. He gave a small nod. “Five minutes.”

Asra happily pulled him inside the shop. The moment she entered, the soft golden lighting and the rows of shiny bangles made her smile widen. She went straight to the glass counter filled with colorful glass bangles, her jhumkas already jingling as she moved.

The shopkeeper greeted them respectfully, recognizing Ather instantly but staying professional.

Asra carefully picked up a set of delicate pink glass bangles that matched her kurti. She slid a few onto her wrist, admiring how they looked. Then she tried a beautiful set of green ones, followed by golden ones with small mirrors.

“Sir, look!” she said excitedly, lifting her hand and shaking it lightly so the bangles made a sweet jingling sound. “How do these look? They make nice sound, right?”

Ather stood right beside her, towering over the counter. His intense gaze was fixed on her small wrist and the way the bangles decorated her fair skin. He reached out, took her hand in his much larger one, and ran his thumb over the bangles.

“They suit you,” he said in his deep voice. “Buy them.”

Asra’s face lit up. She picked multiple sets — pink, green, maroon, and golden. She even chose some thin silver anklets and a few matching bindis. Every time she tried a new set, she would show it to Ather like a little girl seeking approval.

“Sir, this one or that one?” she asked, holding two different bangles near her wrist.

Ather pointed to the brighter one. “That.”

Asra nodded happily and kept adding more to the pile. The shopkeeper was smiling while packing everything, but he was also slightly nervous because of Ather’s powerful presence.

When they finally finished, Ather paid without blinking. As they walked out of the shop, Asra was proudly wearing a new set of pink bangles on both wrists. Every step she took made them jingle beautifully.

She swung their joined hands lightly and looked up at him.

“Thank you, Sir,” she said softly, her voice full of genuine happiness. “I love bangles… they make me feel nice.”

Ather glanced down at her, his cold eyes softening just a fraction as he watched her joyful expression and the constant soft jingling sound.

He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed the back of it, right above the new bangles.

“Keep wearing them,” he murmured. “I like the sound.”

Asra blushed deeply but smiled, walking closer to him as they continued their mall outing — her new bangles jingling happily with every step, matching the rhythm of her excited heart.
